    Safe forests, safe people

In the recent past, a large number of viruses have jumped from animals to human beings. Some of the examples being Ebola (Bats), HIV (Chimpanzees), SARS (Bats and Civet Cats), MERS (Dromedary camels), Nipah (Bats), Hanta Virus (Rodents) and the recent COVID-19. The outbreak of COVID-19 has been considered to be deadliest pandemic faced by the human civilisation after the Spanish Flu (1918).

What could be the reasons for the jump in viruses from animals to human beings? Our past experience tells us that is mainly on account of destruction of forests and farming/trade in wildlife species.

These factors have brought wildlife species closer to human being leading to increase in the number of outbreak of diseases of animal origin.
