    Description

Odisha, West Bengal brace for Amphan

The storm system in the Bay of Bengal, Amphan, developed into a super cyclone on Monday and is expected to make landfall along the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast on Wednesday, according to the India Meteorological Department.

Cyclones are caused by atmospheric disturbances around a low-pressure area distinguished by swift and often destructive air circulation.

Cyclones are usually accompanied by violent storms and bad weather.

A jolt to national energy security

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s proposal for reform of power tariff policy — announced as part of the stimulus package following the pandemic — is of a piece with the recent comprehensive proposal to amend the Electricity Act 2003; put together, they erode the concurrent status accorded to electricity in the Constitution

    A matter of relief

The Government has announced the total economic stimulus package of Rs 20 lakh crores. However, some of the economists have pointed out that the total fiscal support extended by the Government amounts to mere Rs 1 lakh crores (less than 1% of GDP).

    • Economic Package- More on monetary side rather than Fiscal Policy side
    • Why is it concerned to be a problem?
    • Economic Package- More on Supply Side rather than Demand side
    • Why is it concerned to be a problem?
    • The other side of the Debate- A Pragmatic and Prudent approach of Government

Stimulus to cost only about 1% of GDP

With the announcement of the final tranche of Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, the COVID-19 relief package, a pattern to the government’s approach is visible.

    Preparing for a syndemic

Even as there are more than 100 vaccine candidates under development, the WHO recently cautioned that COVID 19 may well become another endemic like HIV and may never ‘go away’.

‘Given the prevailing uncertainty should we expect it become a ‘Syndemic’ and prepare accordingly?’ , is the question that is bothering policy makers and health professionals worldwide.

    Aman Kumar 1 month ago

Isn't option one incorrect? It is an antibody that is produced in response to an antigen to fight the infection.

Sir, there seems to be a problem with the last question. Antigens are not produced by the body as is given. Please do clarify

Dear Student, let's try to understand the meaning of antigen through a definition, "Antigen is a substance that is capable of stimulating an immune response, specifically activating lymphocytes, which are the body’s infection-fighting white blood cells. In general, two main divisions of antigens are recognized: foreign antigens (or heteroantigens) and autoantigens (or self-antigens). Foreign antigens originate from outside the body. Examples include parts of or substances produced by viruses or microorganisms (such as bacteria and protozoa), as well as substances in snake venom, certain proteins in foods, and components of serum and red blood cells from other individuals. Autoantigens, on the other hand, originate within the body. Normally, the body is able to distinguish self from nonself, but in persons with autoimmune disorders, normal bodily substances provoke an immune response, leading to the generation of autoantibodies."

So, here you can see two things
    a) Antigen is capable of stimulating immune response and second
    b) It is produced by body as well as it can be of foreign origin.

If you look at both the statements, you will see the first statement is correct. In the question statement it is not written that Antigen is produced ONLY in the body. I hope this will address the confusion in your mind.

Antigens are molecules capable of stimulating an immune response. This is mentioned in solution. As per my knowledge through previous elaborate DNS, this immune response is simply production of anti bodies. And these anti bodies perform the role of fighting the infection.
    So
It's not anti gen which fights infection they just trigger production of anti body. Be it self or induced from outside.
    First option says
Antigen is a substance that is produced by the body to fight against the infection.

So as anti gen is only triggering a immune response and it's not the one fighting the infection caused due to itself. In this way I thought option 1 was incorrect.

    TO RAUS TEAM,
SIR the question in prelims quiz that is Q5 seems to be wrongly worded,to my knowledge statement 1 should be antibody instead of antigen since it is produced  by the body to fight against infection.if question remains same as antigen option should be option 4 but neither is the case ,so please rectify it or forgive me if my mentio ning is wrong

Sir, in naming of Cyclones, in the new list (post Amphan) showed by you, Sri Lanka is not there and Iran is there. Have they changed the participant countries now? Plz clarify.

    MOHIT CHHAJER 1 month ago

Antigens are bio-markers on pathogens generally, they help our body's immune system to identify the pathogen and initiate immune response by releasing antibodies to fight against the pathogen attack.
